Women and LGBT+ people must be protected from discrimination and violence. No more postponements, we need an effective law now!
Update – 27 october 2021: Today, the Italian Senate has decided to block the legislative process of a bill that would have protected LGBT+ people from hate. This is a shameful moment for Italian politics. But this setback will not stop our fight for LGBT+ rights in Italy.

Violence and discrimination against LGBT+ people and women are a painful reality in Italy.
The latest research by the European Agency for Fundamental Rights on LGBT+ people in Italy shows that 62% of respondents avoid taking their loved ones by the hand and 30% do not go to certain places for fear of being attacked. 23% claim to have suffered discrimination at work, 32% to have suffered at least one episode of harassment in the last year and 8% one episode of physical aggression in the last 5 years. Only 1 in 6 people have reported these incidents to the police.
After so many failures in passing laws tackling these issues, it is high time Italy plays its part in combating discrimination and violence based on sex, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Italy can no longer wait. Both the Parliament and the Government must act quickly and pass an effective law.
LGBT+ people in Italy are asking for one simple thing: to be able to live and love, free from fear.
