#HEALTH4ALL: Stop The Attack On Transgender Adults

Across the U.S., states are expanding bans on gender-affirming care to adults, criminalizing doctors and eroding medical autonomy.

The legislative landscape in the U.S. shows an unprecedented escalation in anti-transgender bills, surpassing 1,000 in 2025, with 210 directly targeting healthcare. This focus has dangerously expanded beyond minors to include the adult population. This shift is no longer just about transgender rights; it's a direct threat to medical autonomy and the freedom of healthcare for everyone.

State lawmakers are employing diverse tactics to undermine evidence-based gender-affirming care for adults, ignoring the consensus of major medical associations. This aggression is evident in two crucial ways, as indicated by various reports:

1. Restriction of public coverage: States are implementing bans that prohibit trans people from accessing the care they need – even if they have medical coverage through the state. This disproportionately punishes low-income transgender adults who rely on these programs for essential care.

2. Criminalization and restriction of medical practice: The goal is to make evidence-based medical practice illegal. The legislation tracker shows bills attempting to impose severe criminal penalties, including life imprisonment, on healthcare professionals for providing gender-affirming care, even when it aligns with the defined standard of care. These laws politicize medicine, forcing doctors to choose between following scientific guidance and facing jail time.

By allowing politicians to ban medically necessary treatment for a specific adult population based purely on ideological grounds, a dangerous legal and moral precedent is set. If the state can legally dictate that a treatment endorsed by the American Medical Association (AMA) is illegal for one population, it opens the door for the government to intervene in any other healthcare decision – including yours.
