The Crisálidas y Mariposas (CrisMa) program of Santamaría Foundation has been working since 2008 with trans women and gay men deprived of liberty in the Villahermosa Prison in Cali, Colombia. Our comprehensive approach seeks to improve their living conditions, guarantee access to justice and support their re-socialization process. We promote equal rights and dignity for this population through psychosocial and psycho-legal actions and cultural activities.
One of our greatest achievements has been the creation of the LGBT Corridor in Yard 3, a safe space for trans women and gay men deprived of liberty. There, we have strengthened support networks and worked together to improve their living conditions, promote their leadership and develop cultural and pedagogical activities that contribute to their well-being.
During the pandemic, we faced great challenges due to the closure of the prison to external visitors. However, we continued to support people in the LGBT corridor with hygiene kits and prevention materials from COVID-19. As we resume our visits, our goal is to expand our activities to the delivery of hygiene kits, jewelry and craft materials, and basic utensils for those who come to Aisle 3B.
Your financial support is essential to continue this work. Donations will finance the purchase of materials, educational and cultural activities, as well as legal and health accompaniment to guarantee the human rights of these people.
Imagine a butterfly that cannot spread its wings for lack of space. That's what our colleagues experience every day. With your help, we can give them more than wings: we can give them back their flight. Help us to continue transforming lives!
