Kenya: Booking platforms must delist anti-LGBT+ Boma hotel

Boma Hotel is hosting an anti-LGBT+ conference in Nairobi. Call on Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, and Tripadvisor to remove the listing now.

Update – May 18, 2025: The 2nd Pan-African Conference on Family Values has now concluded at Boma Hotel in Nairobi, despite widespread opposition. The hotel, which hosted this harmful event organized by anti-LGBT+ groups, is still listed on major booking platforms like Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, and Tripadvisor. By maintaining these listings, these platforms continue to lend credibility to a venue promoting hate. We urge Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, and Tripadvisor to delist Boma Hotel immediately and take a stand against discrimination.

Boma Hotel in Nairobi is set to host the 2nd Pan-African Conference on Family Values from May 12-17, 2025. The event is organized by international groups known for pushing anti-LGBT+ and anti-gender agendas across Africa, including Family Watch International and C-FAM.

Despite pressure from local and international organizations, Boma Hotel refuses to cancel. The hotel is owned by the Kenya Red Cross, a Global Fund recipient, and is still listed on major hotel booking platforms like Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia, and Tripadvisor.

By continuing to list this hotel, these platforms are lending credibility and visibility to a venue that is facilitating the spread of hate. This not only endangers LGBT+ communities in Kenya and the region, but also undermines the trust of travelers who expect booking platforms to uphold values of safety and inclusion.

We are calling on these companies to delist Boma Hotel immediately and take a clear stand against discrimination. This is a chance to show that global businesses will not remain neutral when fundamental rights are under attack.

Sign now to urge the leadership of Booking Holdings, Agoda, Expedia, and Tripadvisor to stop promoting a hotel that is hosting an anti-LGBT+ conference.

To Glenn Fogel, CEO of Booking.com, Omri Morgenshtern, CEO of Agoda, Ariane Gorin, CEO of Expedia Group, Matt Goldberg, CEO of Tripadvisor:

We are calling on your platforms to immediately delist Boma Hotel in Nairobi, which is set to host the 2nd Pan-African Conference on Family Values from May 12–17, 2025. This event is organized by international groups known for promoting anti-LGBT+ and anti-gender policies across Africa, including Family Watch International, C-FAM, and others with a history of hate-driven advocacy.

The conference presents a direct threat to LGBT+ people, women, and those working in public health and human rights. Boma Hotel is owned by the Kenya Red Cross, a principal recipient of Global Fund money. Despite this, it continues to provide space to an event that undermines inclusive values and promotes discrimination.

Your companies – Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia, and Tripadvisor – are currently listing Boma Hotel. These listings offer visibility and perceived legitimacy to a venue that is facilitating harm. Continuing to host this listing contradicts your corporate values and sends a dangerous message to LGBT+ communities and travelers globally.

We respectfully urge you to act now. Delist Boma Hotel and send a clear message: travel platforms will not help promote venues that provide a platform for hate.
