Henrique and Wagner, a gay couple in Brazil, were victims of homophobia after a store refused to issue "gay invitations" for their wedding celebration.
Henrique and Wagner have been together for more than eight years and are about to make it official. They plan to hold their wedding reception in September next year.
The couple requested a quote for wedding invitations from a store in São Paulo and everything was going well until Henrique mentioned their names - two men.
In an extremely homophobic and biased incident, the store refused to carry out the service. They said that they couldn't make "homosexual invitations" and that they should look for a company that would "meet their needs". In addition to the response given via WhatsApp, the company posted a statement on social media, reaffirming that they refuse to serve same-sex couples, because they are "Christians and follow principles and believe in the family as it is, made up of a MAN and a WOMAN!"
The couple wanted nothing more than a quote for their wedding invitations!
To fight for justice, Henrique and Wagner filed a police report based on homophobia with the São Paulo Civil Police on April 24.
In support of the couple, congresswoman Erika Hilton and LGBT+ activist Amanda Paschoal filed a complaint with the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate and take action on the case.
"It is not possible to tolerate that, in the year 2024, to have same-sex couples have their dignity violated due to discrimination by service providers" - an excerpt from the request made by congresswoman Erika Hilton to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Sign the petition to support Henrique and Wagner and to ask the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office to take the necessary steps to investigate and hold the store in question accountable for the crime of homophobia.
