WHO no longer recognizes homsexuality as a 'disease'. Now they should list homphobia as a mental disease.
Homophobia is a state of mind based on prejudice alone and without a foundation in science or reason. On 17 May 1990 the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of diseases. We now ask WHO to continue this work by sending a significant message to states that penalise or even persecute alleged homosexuals as well as to homophobes in states where homosexuality is not a crime. WHO should do this on 17 May 2024 by adding homophobia as a mental condition on the International Classification of Diseases.
