The National Park Service (NPS) has removed the words “trans, queer, and plus (+)” from the Stonewall National Monument website, reducing the language to only “LGB people.”
This erasure of history is an insult to the brave activists of 1969 who fought for all of us—not just some. The term LGBTQ+ may not have existed in 1969, but trans and queer people were at the frontlines of the Stonewall Uprising.
This is more than just a change in wording. It is part of a dangerous trend—an attempt to rewrite history and exclude our community.
