Violence against LGBT+ people is increasing. Together, let's stand up for the recognition of LGBT+ rights and equality in the face of hate.
The universality of human rights is at the heart of our society. Yet today, that universality is being put to the test, especially for LGBT+ people.
Although homosexuality is widely accepted in French society, the dramatic increase in violence and discrimination against LGBT+ individuals remains a harsh reality that affects our fellow citizens.
Since 2016, acts of violence against LGBT+ people have risen alarmingly, with an increase of 17% each year. This trend is no accident: it stems from an environment in which hostility toward sexual and gender minorities is becoming normalized. While there has been growing recognition socially, in practice, physical, psychological, and verbal violence is multiplying — putting the lives of many members of the LGBT+ community at risk.
Young people, in particular, are especially vulnerable. 23% of Generation Z identifies as LGBT+, and this population is experiencing dramatic consequences for their mental health: twice as many psychological disorders and a suicide risk four to five times higher than their heterosexual peers. These numbers are unacceptable, and it is time for society and its institutions to take strong measures to reverse this trend.
To ensure the universality of rights, we need collective action, strong mobilization, and shared responsibility. Recognizing the rights of LGBT+ people is not enough; their protection must also be guaranteed in every aspect of daily life. This includes concrete actions in schools, businesses, the public sphere, digital spaces, and public policies.
Responding to hate speech online, for example, is not optional — it is a necessity. When companies and digital platforms abandon their commitments to diversity, or allow hateful speech to go unchecked, they pave the way for the forced invisibility of minorities, a return to discrimination, and the erasure of hard-won rights.
In response to these challenges, The Pigments Project is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all. This LGBT+ think & do tank embodies thoughtful and proactive leadership, promoting inclusion, diversity, and collective moral ethics as cornerstones of social and economic progress.
Our fight does not stop here. We call for global engagement to inspire public policy and support private initiatives, working toward a future where equality and fraternity are realities accessible to all. It is time to reaffirm that the rights of LGBT+ people are not a favor, but a fundamental right, and that they must be protected against all forms of violence and discrimination.
Join us in this fight.
