SAFE SPACES FOR TRANS & QUEER FOLKS

A safe space for the queer community to have the equal opportunities of education and self development

I'm BLACK, I'm TRANS/QUEER , I have a DISABILITY & I'm a WOMAN; all of the finest ingredients to make me apart of the selected communities that majority of society mostly ostracises, victimises, penalises, discriminates, sexualises, objectifies and fears. Throughout my life, I have experienced mental, physical and sexual abuse from others (whether it be by organisations or individuals) partly because I did not understanding my worth or who I am, as I have never felt like there is a safe space for me to be me and grow (and I speak on behalf of many members of the trans/queer community who have the same or similar experiences). The transgender/queer community (especially POC) unfortunately do not feel safe nor supported by the government or by our LGB(T) peers due to the lack of education and understanding of the difficulties we face in today’s society. Right now the trans community (especially POC) are in danger due to continuous acts of transphobia and racism. For the year of 2020 there has been a reporting of 350 killings of trans/queer people around the world; non of these reporting are from the U.K. as the authorities tend to miss-gender us or fail to take transphobic crime seriously, as a result WE don’t feel safe as British citizens. The problem I am highlighting is that there are no safe spaces for trans/queer people and POC and therefore lack of resources and programs that support our growth and existence. We need support/funding from the government and organisations to create such spaces as all the support/funding allocated to the LGBT+ community tend to benefit LGB(not the TQI+), which leaves us somewhat deprived having to share a platform with communities fighting for their rights of sexuality (whom are participants to SOME of the transphobic experiences we endure). We need a separate platform to stand for our basic gender, human rights; fighting unemployment, homelessness and transphobia that our community faces.

To Jeremy Corbyn:

We need to stand for our gender rights and humanity. As a solution I believe that the trans community should have funding/support to open safe spaces for social and self development. These centres will tackle the current unemployment rate that is affected by the pandemic along with the high levels of homelessness within our community. I understand that the information I have given is quite intense, but this is the life we currently (have to) live. In hopes of a positive/supportive response I will look forward to hearing from you.
