TikTok: Stop ignoring transphobia and hate online

Every day, LGBT+ users face hate on TikTok. Demand stronger action to protect trans and queer people now.

Every day, LGBT+ people on TikTok face a wave of hate – from insults and harassment to threats of violence. Trans users, in particular, are targeted with constant misgendering, deadnaming, and abuse.

When these attacks are reported, the response is often the same: “No violation found.” Even when the abuse is explicit, TikTok frequently refuses to take down the content.

This isn’t an isolated issue. Across countries where discrimination is supposed to be illegal, users are being failed by a system that should protect them. Meanwhile, in countries where being LGBT+ is criminalized, this neglect can be even more dangerous – putting lives at risk.

TikTok’s Community Guidelines already prohibit hate speech, harassment, and discrimination. But vague wording and inconsistent enforcement mean that trans and queer users remain unsafe. Many content creators who profit from the platform spread hateful ideas without consequence. And when users speak out, they’re often silenced or ignored.

We’re calling on TikTok to do better – to enforce its own rules and protect the LGBT+ community from hate.

TikTok has the power – and responsibility – to make its platform safe for everyone. Let’s hold them accountable.

Sign now to demand that TikTok enforces its own policies and stands with LGBT+ people against hate.

To TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew, Head of Trust and Safety, and Global Moderation Team:

Every day, LGBT+ users – especially trans people – are being harassed, misgendered, and threatened on your platform. These attacks violate TikTok’s own Community Guidelines and create a hostile environment for millions.

When users report such abuse, they often receive the same answer: “No violation found.” This sends a clear message that discrimination against LGBT+ people is tolerated.

We urge you to take immediate and concrete steps to ensure real safety and accountability:

- Strengthen and clarify policies to explicitly ban misgendering, deadnaming, and transphobia.
- Train both moderators and AI tools to detect contextual hate speech and protect marginalized communities.
- Introduce an appeal mechanism when reports are wrongly dismissed.
- Hold creators, agencies, and partners accountable under non-discrimination clauses.
- Publish transparent reports on hate speech complaints, actions taken, and penalties enforced.
- Support awareness campaigns and creator guidance to foster inclusion and respect.
- Create an independent oversight board to review and intervene in cases involving Human Rights violations, ensuring fairness, accountability, and transparency in moderation decisions.

These steps are not just about compliance – they are about responsibility.

Your platform shapes how millions of people see themselves and others. We ask you to stand with the LGBT+ community and make TikTok a truly safe space for everyone.
