According to a study submitted to the Dutch Parliament, there are 15 organizations in the Netherlands that offer "conversion therapy" services. "Conversion therapy" is a set of harmful, mentally and physically dangerous, useless and pseudo-medical practices aimed at "cure" homosexuality, bisexuality or transgender. Such a "cure" is impossible, since no sexual orientation or gender identity is a disease, they are all varieties of biological and moral norms. The practices used in such "cure" are notoriously useless and fraudulent, as well as harmful to the mental and physical health of LGBTQ people, especially young people who may be coerced into such "treatment" by their parents. It is incredibly terrible and disgusting that in the Netherlands, one of the most developed and liberal countries, such medieval things still exist.

Most recently, on February 14, 2022, the political parties VVD and D66 introduced a new bill that would have to ban harmful and medieval "conversion therapy" in the Netherlands. A great move that should have been made in the Netherlands 20 years ago, but better late than never. To date, "conversion therapy" is banned in Canada, New Zealand, some US states, partly in Germany, France, Malta. The Netherlands has an obligation to finally join these countries and ban "conversion therapy" as soon as possible in order to protect the rights and health of LGBTIQ people and especially young people. The bill, introduced on February 14, must be passed no later than 2022.

We, the signatories of this petition, call on the political parties VVD and D66 and the Dutch Parliament to pass this bill as soon as possible and in any case no later than 2022. The political parties VVD and D66, as well as MPs from these parties, are obliged to do everything possible to contribute to the adoption of this bill in 2022, in order to protect the rights and health of all LGBTIQ people in the Netherlands.
