We seek to send an LGBT+ sports team of only 15 members from Uganda to the EuroGames, in Bern. This will be the only team from Africa. We shall be advocating for the stopping of the Anti Homosexual bill to the International community.
Hello Community,
We are small grass root organization called LGBTQI VOCIES UGANDA who until recently has been funded 100% by the founders. Please spare some time to read through this text as we try to raise our voice to bring the plight of the LGBT+ community in Uganda, using sports.
UGANDA AT A GLANCE:
The LGBT+ community in Uganda is currently gripped with fear, facing human rights abuses like rape, murder and evictions. The situation has become even more deadly since the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill by the parliament nearly a month ago.
WHAT WE DO AT LGBTQI VOICES:
We use of sports as a therapy to the depressed members and we advocate for the inclusion of LGBT+ people into main stream sports too.
In 2021, we wanted to participate in the EUROGAMES, unfortunately this never happened because our team was busted by the local area police, and some members were arrested although most of them managed to escape, and now leave in refugee camps.
GOAL 2023, BERN, SWITZERLAND
Our BIG mission this time, is to compete while highlighting the plight of Uganda's LGBT+ community in the face of the new Anti-Homosexuality bill that was passed in uganda. We head to Bern with a voice of defiance against the parliament of Uganda, with the aim of provoking the International community into action to pressure the President of Uganda not to assent to the Act into law.
We seeks to challenge the culture of exclusion of LGBT+ athletes from main stream sports in Uganda and the rights abuse the LGBT+ community faces, aimed at disintegrating the solidarity of the LGBT+ community.
We want to use athlete activism which is universally expected, to bring to the attention of the international community the need for LGBT+ civil rights, by voicing our opposition to the Anti-Homosexuality law and policies that discriminate against LGBT+ people in Uganda.
Our participations aims to provoke the International community to act, so as to stop this pending law. And thus, we are confident that the Ugandan legislature and political power shall succumb to the pressure.
Please donate to this cause, send us to Bern and raise the voice that will stop the suffering of the LGBT+ community in Uganda.
