Djibouti: Stop violating LGBT+ Rights!

The LGBT+ community in Djibouti faces abuse and discrimination. Sign now to tell the UN to protect sexual minority rights!

The LGBT+ community in Djibouti is facing a severe human rights crisis. Arbitrary arrests, acts of torture, and murders are being committed under the pretext of Sharia law, with no government protection. Although consensual same-sex relations are not explicitly criminalized, sexual minorities remain vulnerable to systemic discrimination and widespread violence.

Djibouti has ratified several international treaties, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which guarantee the protection of sexual minorities. However, these commitments are largely ignored, leaving the LGBT+ community exposed to abuse and injustice.

The UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution in 2011 to combat violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Djibouti voted against this resolution, revealing its disengagement from LGBT+ rights. Today, no anti-discrimination laws exist, no safe spaces are accessible, and LGBT+ organizations are nonexistent. Community members live in constant fear of reprisal.

Your support is crucial. Together, we can demand justice and dignity for LGBT+ people in Djibouti. Your signature is essential to send a strong message: no government can ignore the rights of its citizens. Act now to protect the lives and rights of sexual minorities.

Sign today for a fairer and more inclusive future.

United Nations and UN Human Rights Council

We, the undersigned, express our deep concern about the alarming human rights situation of sexual minorities in Djibouti. These communities endure arbitrary arrests, acts of torture, and murders under the pretext of enforcing Sharia law.

These severe violations occur in a context of no anti-discrimination laws and the complicit silence of the Djiboutian government.

Despite Djibouti ratifying several international treaties, these commitments remain largely unfulfilled. As a result, sexual minorities in Djibouti live in constant fear of violence and persecution.

We urgently request the United Nations to take the following measures to address this intolerable situation:

1. Demand that Djibouti fully respects the international treaties it has ratified, implementing concrete reforms to ensure the rights and safety of sexual minorities.

2. Publicly condemn the abuses inflicted on sexual minorities, calling on the Djiboutian government to take immediate steps to end these violations.

These actions are essential to protect the fundamental rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It is imperative that the international community, under the leadership of the United Nations, takes a stand against these blatant abuses and demands accountability from Djibouti.
