Tell Red Cross Kenya NOT to give hate a platform!

Boma Hotel, co-owned by Kenya Red Cross, is set to host an anti-gender and anti-LGBT+ conference contrary to their Global Fund mandate on Key populations. Tell them to withdraw their property as a platform for the conference.

Kenya Red Cross Society, a shareholder of the Boma Hotel, is set to host the Pan African Christian Conference on Family Values (PACFV) from May 12-17, 2025. This event is sponsored and organized by groups including Family Watch International (US), CitizenGO (Spain), Ordo Luris (Poland), Christian Council International (Netherlands) and C-FAM  – organizations globally recognized in undermining human rights, public health and gender equality.

While Kenya Red Cross Society insists that Boma Hotel is a separate entity, official records as of March 2025 confirm that they are indeed shareholders of Boma Hotel. This means the Kenya Red Cross Society is profiting from Boma Hotel’s guests while directly complicit in enabling this harmful gathering.

As the principal recipient of Global Fund in Kenya, Hosting this event contradicts Red Cross’ humanitarian mission and threatens the safety and dignity of people living with HIV, women and LGBT+ individuals  – communities that Kenya Red Cross Society has long committed to supporting. The event’s so-called “family values” narrative is a smokescreen for policies that promote death, discrimination, femicide, gender based violence and restrict fundamental freedoms.

We call upon Kenya Red Cross Society and the Boma Hotel to immediately withdraw their property as a platform for the conference. Venues like Boma Hotel should be safe spaces that promote inclusion, not platforms for hate and exclusion.

Sign this petition to tell Kenya Red Cross Society: You can’t claim to stand for human rights while providing a platform for these dangerous groups that seek to dismantle them.

To Dr Ahmed Idris, Red Cross Kenya Secretary General, Dr Abbas Gullet, Director, Boma Hotel:

Dear Dr. Ahmed Idris and Dr. Abbas Gullet,

We, the undersigned, strongly urge Kenya Red Cross and Boma Hotel to withdraw their support for the upcoming anti-rights Conference on Family Values, scheduled to take place at Boma Hotel from May 12-17, 2025.

This conference, funded by Family Watch International (US), Christian Council International (Netherlands), CitizenGO (Spain), Ordo Luris (Poland) and other international hate groups is not about promoting “family values.” It is a gathering of groups that have long been associated with pushing hateful, discriminatory legislation, restricting women’s rights, and dismantling gender equality protections across Africa.

Despite attempts to disassociate Boma Hotel from the Red Cross, public records confirm that Kenya Red Cross is a primary shareholder of Boma Hotel as of March 2025. By providing a venue for this event, Red Cross directly enables a platform for hate and discrimination—a stark contradiction to the values of inclusivity, humanity, and non-discrimination that the organization claims to uphold.

Red Cross Kenya is the current principal recipient of Global Fund resources, playing a critical role in HIV prevention and public health efforts. Hosting this event endangers relationships with marginalized communities who have long relied on Red Cross for support and protection.

We call on you to immediately cancel this booking and publicly reaffirm Red Cross’ commitment to human rights, health, and inclusivity. Failure to act will raise serious concerns about whether Red Cross can still be trusted by the community to lead with empathy and fight for their rights.
