Brazilian Supreme Court, please let me pee!

After 8 years, the Brazilian Supreme Court should reexamine the case about the safe use of bathrooms by trans people. Sign the petition to ask that our gender identities are respected in all spaces.

Just imagine: you're dying to pee, you find a public restroom, but they bar you at the door or forcibly remove you, saying that that bathroom is not for you. Unfortunately, this is a reality that trans and travesti people face every day in Brazil. (Travesti is a common transfeminine identity in Latin America.)

In 2015, following the the case of a trans woman who was removed from a women's bathroom in a shopping mall in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, the Brazilian Supreme Court began hearing a case on the possibility of compensation for moral damages to trans people and travestis who are prevented from using the bathroom of the gender with which they identify.

The Supreme Court discussions on the case have been stalled for almost 8 years. But now there is a real possibility that the case will finally be released for the Court to continue the trial.

In other words: this is our opportunity to fight for a decision that affirms the respect for the gender identity of trans and travesti people in Brazil and guarantee protections for trans people when using public bathrooms.

Sign our petition to ask the Brazilian Supreme Court to affirm that trans and travesti people have the right to use the bathroom according to the gender with which they identify without being victims of violence and prejudice!
