Two young women in Uganda, were arrested after allegedly kissing in public. Under Uganda’s harsh Anti Homosexuality act, they face life in prison.
Wendy Faith, 22, and Diana Denise, 21, are currently behind bars in Arua, a city in north-western Uganda.
The two young women were arrested after police raided their rented room. According to local authorities, they were reported by members of the community and accused of engaging in same-sex intimacy, including allegedly kissing each other in public.
Under Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act, people accused of same-sex relations can face life imprisonment.
This means two young women could spend the rest of their lives in prison simply for showing affection.
For Wendy Faith and Diana Denise, the consequences are immediate and terrifying. Being detained exposes them to stigma, mistreatment, and coercive practices while in custody. Their safety and future are at risk.
No one should face arrest, prison, or violence simply for who they are or for expressing affection. Laws should protect people’s dignity and safety – not punish them for it.
Right now, Wendy Faith and Diana Denise need urgent support.
Please sign the petition and call on Ugandan authorities to review their detention and ensure their immediate release.
