Faith Should Heal: Stop LGBTQIA+ Hate in Churches

Too many LGBTQIA+ people face hate in churches. We urge religious leaders to embrace love, end discrimination, and ensure inclusive spaces for all.

Too many LGBTQIA+ people face hate, judgment, and discrimination in churches. Places meant to be full of love and hope have often become spaces of shame, fear, and rejection. Some LGBTQIA+ individuals are even called “children of Satan”, while others are labeled as Satan themselves. We are human beings, just like anyone else. We love God, we want to worship, but we are pushed away and discriminated against.

Every person is created in God’s image. The Bible reminds us in Genesis 1:27: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” All people, no matter their identity or who they love, are made in God’s image and deserve love, dignity, and respect.

When pastors or religious leaders speak words of hate, real people are hurt. Young LGBTQIA+ people feel unwanted. Adults feel rejected. Families are torn. Hearts and spirits are wounded. This is not love. This is not what God calls us to do.

Faith should heal, not harm. Churches should be safe spaces where everyone feels welcome. As Matthew 22:39 says: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Every LGBTQIA+ person is our neighbor, and love must guide actions, not fear, hate, or judgment.

We call on all religious leaders to:

Stop words and actions that shame or marginalize LGBTQIA+ people.
Speak messages of love, inclusion, and acceptance.
Educate their communities about LGBTQIA+ lives and the harm caused by discrimination.
Open their churches to everyone — embracing diversity and creating inclusive spaces for all.
We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for equality, respect, and love. Discrimination drives us away from the faith we love, and it must stop.

If LGBTQIA+ people in your churches are being shamed, rejected, or called children of Satan, how will you fulfill God’s command in Matthew 28 to make disciples of all nations? How can you lead people to Christ when so many are being pushed away in His name?

Sign this petition today. Tell religious leaders: stop hate, embrace love, and welcome LGBTQIA+ people as children of God, not as outcasts. Together, we can create churches that truly heal, protect, and include everyone.

Faith should heal. Faith should protect. Faith should include everyone. Always.

To Deron Sheri Copia:

Dear ReligiusLeaders,

I am writing to you out of concern for LGBTQIA+ individuals in our faith community. Too often, places meant to offer love and hope have become spaces of shame, fear, and rejection. Some are even called “children of Satan” or labeled as Satan themselves. This is painful and contradicts the values of compassion, justice, and love that our faith teaches.

Faith should heal, protect, and welcome everyone. As Matthew 22:39 teaches, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” We urge all religious leaders to speak love, embrace diversity, and create safe, inclusive spaces. Discrimination drives people away from the faith they cherish.

Stand for love. Stand for inclusion. Faith should include everyone.

Sincerely,
Deron Sheri.C
