LGBTphobic violence on the rise: call on the Senate to pass legislation to strengthen protection and access to justice for LGBT+ people!
Let's protect the rights of LGBT+ people in France – let's take action for fairer justice!
In 2025, LGBTphobic attacks have rocketed. The Ministry of the Interior reports an alarming rise in violence: +13% in 2022, +19% in 2023. Yet behind these statistics, so many victims remain silent, isolated, because the law does not always give them the means to defend themselves or obtain justice.
Now, the Senate is examining a crucial bill to strengthen the protection of LGBT+ people in the face of violence, discrimination and hatred. The bill responds to a real need: to enable associations to work more effectively alongside victims and to break down the legal barriers to access to justice.
Why is this law so important?
It finally gives associations the right to join criminal proceedings as a civil party in cases of rape, kidnapping, extortion or blackmail – offences of which LGBT+ people are all too often the target, particularly in the case of ambushes orchestrated via social networks. Until now, associations have only been able to intervene to a limited extent, leaving many victims without effective support in their legal proceedings.
Another major advance is the fight against conversion therapies. Despite being banned in 2022, these practices are still rife, sometimes in the shadows, sometimes within families, associations or religious groups. By extending criminal liability to anyone offering or organising this type of “therapy”, the law would fill a gap, providing better protection for vulnerable people.
Finally, the addition of ‘gender expression’ as an autonomous criterion of discrimination or hatred is a long-awaited step. It is about recognising the diversity of ways of being oneself, of dressing, of speaking, of loving – and giving victims of discrimination new tools to assert their rights.
This is not a favour, it's a necessity.
Every day, lives are shattered by hatred and indifference. The law must leave no room for ambiguity. France has a duty to protect everyone, without exception.
Are you wondering whether a petition can change things? Absolutely! People power has already led to a ban on "conversion therapies" in 2022 and to many laws being passed. Today, we need your voice to demand that this text be quickly placed on the Senate agenda and passed without delay.
Sign and share the petition. Together, let the senators know that protecting LGBT+ people is a priority!
