Government of Jalisco: Stop Attacking Rainbow Families!

The government of Jalisco has ordered the Civil Registry to stop registering children of two mothers.

"They no longer allow you to register your children with two moms." This testimony reflects an alarming reality.

For years, lesbian couples in Jalisco fought for their children to be legally recognized by both mothers. In 2024, we celebrated the first birth certificates with two moms or two dads, without needing a legal appeal. It was a historic victory. But now, everything is at risk.

The Civil Registry of Jalisco received the order to stop registering the children of lesbian couples. This means preventing these families from existing legally. Children are being deprived of their right to identity and to be protected by their two mothers.

These attacks are not isolated cases. A few weeks ago, the governor also revoked the legal recognition of trans people. Everything indicates a systematic strategy to erase Rainbow Families and identities from public life.

We cannot remain silent. Every signature is a voice that shouts: Rainbow Families exist and deserve protection!

For the State Congress of Jalisco

To whom it may concern at the Civil Registry of the State of Jalisco, we reiterate the request to respect the human rights of our children, the right to affiliation with both mothers, as well as our right to form a family and decide how many children to have, when, and how. Please carry out the birth registration and recognition of our children without impediments or discrimination. To the Government of Jalisco, from civil society, we ask you to advance legislative initiatives that ensure diverse families that their rights will be respected. We must pave the way for all families to be equally recognized.
