On March 3, the Yucatán Congress approved a constitutional reform recognizing LGBT+ rights. However, in practice, we still face barriers at the Civil Registry when trying to access fundamental rights, such as the recognition of our families and gender identity. Without a clear and mandatory protocol, LGBT+ people continue to be discriminated against and face unnecessary administrative obstacles.
⚖️ The Impact:
Same-sex couples struggle to register their children, and trans people face roadblocks in having their identity recognized. Without a gender-inclusive and LGBT+ affirmative protocol, the legal progress we achieved in Yucatán will not translate into real change in our lives.
