We're calling on Grindr to take bold action to stop surveillance, protect users from violence, and offer real support to those at risk.
Dating apps like Grindr have created vital spaces for LGBT+ people to connect, find love, and build community – especially in places where it's not safe to be out. But too often, these same platforms are being used by criminals and hostile authorities to entrap, harass, and even prosecute LGBT+ people.
We at All Out had the opportunity to speak directly with Grindr's team. We appreciate the thoughtful conversations and the steps they've already taken to improve safety, including location masking, safety messaging, and partnerships with local organizations.
But more can and must be done.
In countries like Colombia, Brazil, Egypt, and Ghana, people have been attacked, blackmailed, or even killed after connecting with someone on Grindr. In repressive states, governments use dating apps to identify and persecute LGBT+ people. And when things go wrong, survivors are often left without clear support.
That's why we're calling on Grindr to take the next step and become a global leader in LGBT+ digital safety.
Here's what we're asking for:
- Clear and public commitments to resist surveillance and protect user data from repressive governments
- Stronger protections against location tracking and triangulation
- A global survivor support system with referrals to trusted mental health and legal services
Grindr is in a unique position to lead and to set an example for other platforms that haven't yet stepped up. We believe this is a chance to show what real commitment to the safety of the LGBT+ community looks like.
Sign this petition to support stronger protections for queer people using dating apps, so that LGBT+ people everywhere can be free to live, and free to love.
